What You Need: A Private Bench

To start adding custom applications, the first thing you need is a Private Bench. This is a dedicated space where you can install and manage your custom applications. If you don’t have one yet, you can easily create it by following the instructions provided in the Empress Cloud documentation.

Here’s How to Install Custom Applications:

  1. Access your Empress Cloud dashboard. Look for the name of your bench and click the Manage Bench button next to it.
  2. You’ll be taken to the management interface. Click on the Apps tab and then the Add App button.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Add from GitHub.
  4. Now, click Connect To GitHub and follow the prompts to authenticate Empress Cloud’s access to your GitHub applications.
  5. Once authenticated, choose the appropriate organization and application. Select the branch you’d like to deploy from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Validate App and then the Add app button. Your application will now appear in the Apps tab of your bench.
  7. To deploy your bench, click the Show updates button and then Deploy.

Remember, if you update your application, you need to deploy an updated version of your bench and update your site to reflect these changes.

A Note on Private Repositories

Empress Cloud also allows you to add applications that are private repositories. You can even publish these on the marketplace if you wish. However, bear in mind that users given SSH access to your custom benches will be able to view the code of your private repository.
