Query Report
A Query Report is a more sophisticated type of report that makes use of SQL. This report type retrieves data directly from your account’s database, presenting it in a report format. Please note, for Empress cloud users, SQL queries are typically executed from the front end; however, this feature is restricted to prevent unauthorized access to specific reports.
An excellent example of a Query Report is the ‘Purchase Order Item to be Received’ report in the Stock module.
Script Report
Script Reports are the most complex type of reports available in Empress. These reports utilize Python and are stored server-side, making them ideal for tasks requiring complex logic and calculations. Please note that customization of these reports is not possible from a hosted account due to their server-side storage.
A perfect example of a Script Report is the ‘Financial Analytics’ report in the Accounts module.
One key point to remember is that Dynamic Filters are accessible in Script Reports and Query Reports, but not in the Report Builder. Dynamic Filters enable you to alter the data displayed in a report instantaneously, making your reports more adaptable and interactive.
