Creating and Customizing Print Formats in Empress

Introduction

In Empress, each transaction comes with a default Print Format called ‘Standard.’ However, for various business needs, you may want to personalize your Print Formats for different document types. This guide will guide you on how to create, customize, and manage Print Formats in Empress.

Locating Print Format Settings

To find the Print Format settings, follow this path:

Home > Settings > Print Format

Creating a New Print Format

To create a new Print Format, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to the Print Format List and click on ‘New’.
  2. Provide a unique name for the new Print Format and select a DocType for which this Print Format will be used.
  3. The module to which the Print Format applies will be chosen automatically.
  4. Click ‘Save’ to secure your changes.

After you’ve created your Print Format, you can delve into further customizations via the ‘Style Settings’ options. Here, you can modify the font, align labels, incorporate section headings, and more.

Customizing Print Format

For more advanced customization, use the ‘Custom Format’ option. This allows you to script your Print Format using Jinja/JS. When you choose this option, you’ll notice a checkbox for ‘raw printing.’ If developer mode is activated, you can also select ‘Standard’ to contribute a print format as an established print format in the system.

Adjusting Print Format Fields via Customize Form

You can also adjust the visibility of fields in transactions and their related tables using the ‘Customize Form’ feature. For instance, you might want to hide the ‘Item Code’ when printing a Quotation. Here’s how:

  1. Click on the print icon to enter the print screen.
  2. Navigate to ‘Menu’ > ‘Customize’, and select ‘Quotation Item’ in the ‘Enter Form Type’ field.
  3. In the ‘Fields’ table, expand the ‘Item Code’ row, scroll down, and check the ‘Print Hide’ checkbox.

After you’ve created and personalized your Print Format, you can preview it on the print screen of a transaction before proceeding to print.

To sum up, customizing Print Formats in Empress provides a robust way to enhance the presentation of your business documents. It allows you to tailor the appearance and content of your prints to suit your specific needs, thereby improving your business operations.
