Setting Up

Creating a QuickBooks Online App

To begin, you need to create an app on the QuickBooks Online platform. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Empress and search for QuickBooks Migrator in the Awesome-bar.
  2. Visit the Inuit Developer Portal and either log in or sign up.
  3. Navigate to the “My Apps” page and select “Select APIs”.
  4. In the “QuickBooks API” section, check “Accounting”.
  5. Click “Create App” and you’ll be directed to your app’s dashboard.
  6. Go to the “Keys” tab, then “Production Keys” section and complete all the requirements.
  7. In QuickBooks Migrator, a “Redirect URL” will be auto-generated. Add this URL to the “Redirect URIs” of your Inuit App and click Save.
  8. Copy the “Client ID” and “Client Secret” from the “Production Keys” section to the QuickBooks Migrator.
  9. Save the QuickBooks Migrator settings.

Connecting to the QuickBooks Online API

Once the app is set up, you can connect to the QuickBooks Online API:

  1. Click “Connect to QuickBooks”.
  2. Select the company whose data you want to migrate.
  3. Click “Connect”.
  4. The indicator will change to “Connected to QuickBooks”.
  5. In QuickBooks Migrator, select the “Company” for data migration.
  6. Save your QuickBooks Migrator settings.

Migrating Data

With the connection established, you can migrate your data:

  1. Click the “Fetch Data” button.
  2. The migration process will start, and the status will be displayed.
  3. The duration depends on the size of your data.

Understanding Data Migration

Accounts

Empress preserves your existing chart of accounts during migration. All accounts imported from QuickBooks have a “- QB” suffix added to avoid naming conflicts.

Items

All items have company-encoded names with Unit as the default UOM.

Customers and Suppliers

All customers and suppliers will have company-encoded names.

Invoices and Bills

QuickBooks’ invoice and bill variants will be saved as Sales Invoices and Purchase Invoices in Empress respectively.
