Managing Employee Shifts with Empress Shift Request

Introduction

Creating a Shift Assignment

In Empress, the Shift Assignment feature enables you to assign specific shift types to employees for certain periods. This guide will detail the steps to create a Shift Assignment, ensuring efficient shift management for your organization.

Prerequisites

Before creating a Shift Assignment, ensure you have:

  • An Employee record: The employee who will be assigned the shift.
  • A Shift Type: The type of shift to assign (e.g., morning, night).

Creating a Shift Assignment

Shift assignments can vary depending on organizational methods. Sometimes, organizations assign shifts, while other times, employees request specific shifts. In the latter case, a Shift Request leads to an automatic Shift Assignment upon approval.

To create a Shift Assignment directly:

  1. Go to Home > Human Resources > Shift Management > Shift Assignment.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select the Employee.
  4. Choose the Shift Type.
  5. Set the Start Date and, if applicable, the End Date.
  6. Click Save and then Submit.
  7. Optionally, mark the assignment as Inactive post-submission.

Empress also provides a calendar view to overview multiple employees’ shift schedules.

Note: A fixed-period Shift Assignment requires an End Date. Without it, the assignment is ongoing. You can update this even after submission.

Features

Allow Multiple Shift Assignments for Same Date

Empress can enable assigning multiple shifts to an employee on the same day. This setting is found under:

Home > Human Resources > HR Settings > Allow Multiple Shift Assignments for Same Date

By toggling this option, you control whether employees can have multiple shift assignments on the same day.
