Mastering Empress: Optimizing Shipping Rules for Efficiency

Introduction

Welcome to this guide on how to effectively utilize the Shipping Rule feature in Empress. This feature is designed to make it easier for business users to manage and calculate shipping costs, enabling them to establish different rules for the same item across various regions.

Why Use the Shipping Rule Feature?

From a business perspective, the Shipping Rule feature offers a practical solution for managing the shipping costs associated with your products. By defining rules for different regions, you can ensure that your shipping costs are accurate and that your products are delivered to your customers in a cost-effective manner.

How to Create a New Shipping Rule

Creating a new Shipping Rule in Empress is a straightforward process. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Start by navigating to the Shipping Rule list. You can do this by going to Home > Selling > Items and Pricing > Shipping Rule.
  2. Once you’re on the Shipping Rule list, click on New to create a new rule.
  3. Name your rule. This should be something descriptive, such as ‘Priority Shipping’ or ‘Next Day Shipping’.
  4. After naming your rule, you’ll need to input the necessary accounting details. This will include the Shipping Account, the Cost Center (which is where the amount will be charged), and the Shipping Amount.
  5. Next, determine how the Shipping Rule will be calculated under Calculate Based On. You can choose to base it on the net total quantity or the net total weight. If you don’t choose either, the default setting is “Fixed”.
  6. Once you’ve input all the necessary details, click Save to finish creating your new Shipping Rule.

Key Features of Shipping Rules

Shipping Rule Conditions

If you choose Net Total or Net Weight as your calculation method, you’ll see a table where you can set the ‘from’ and ‘to’ values for the amount or weight. This is where you input the Shipping Amount that will be applied to the range you’ve set. If necessary, you can add more conditions. Remember, you can only choose one calculation method per Shipping Rule.

Restrict to Countries

You can restrict the application of your Shipping Rule to specific countries. To do this, simply add the countries in the table. If you don’t add any countries, your Shipping Rule will apply globally.

The Shipping Rule feature in Empress offers an efficient way to manage and calculate your shipping costs. By creating detailed rules, you can ensure your products are delivered to your customers in a timely and cost-effective manner, contributing to the success of your business.
