Mastering Inventory Management with Empress Manufacturing

Introduction

Empress is a comprehensive solution for managing all aspects of your manufacturing business. From managing your master data, like warehouses and raw materials, to executing work orders and managing inventory, Empress has you covered. Let’s dive into the features and see how they can benefit your business.

Master Data Management

Master Data Management is at the heart of the Empress Manufacturing module. It’s where you manage all the essential elements of your manufacturing process. These include:

  • Warehouses: These are the places where you store your raw materials and finished goods. You can create separate warehouses for each type of storage in Empress.
  • Workstations: These are the places where the actual manufacturing operations take place. You can set up workstations based on the finished goods stipulated in the Bill of Materials.
  • Operations: These are the various stages of the manufacturing process. They can also be set up based on the finished goods in the Bill of Materials.
  • Finished Goods: These are the products that you manufacture. They are usually the end result of a series of operations.
  • Raw Materials: These are the inputs that go into creating your finished goods.

Transaction Data Management

The Empress Manufacturing module also provides facilities for managing your Bill of Materials (BOMs). BOMs are crucial for a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Product costing
  • Production planning
  • Creating work orders
  • Creating job cards
  • Inventory planning

Production Planning

Empress supports three key types of Production Planning Systems:

  • Make to Stock: Here, production is planned based on a forecast. The items are then sold to distributors or customers. This is commonly used for fast-moving consumer goods and electronics.
  • Make to Order: In this system, items are manufactured only after a customer places an order. This is typically used for custom-made products.
  • Engineer to Order: Each sale is considered a separate project and must be designed and engineered according to the customer’s requirements. This is often used in custom businesses like furniture and metal fabrication.

Inventory Management

The status of a Work Order in Empress is dependent upon the stock transactions made against it. For instance, you can transfer the raw materials needed to manufacture finished goods from your Store to your Work In Progress Warehouse. From there, the raw materials can be consumed using the Stock Entry function. You have the option to either consume the raw materials in bulk and add the finished good, or consume the materials first and then add the finished good.

In conclusion, Empress provides a comprehensive solution for managing your manufacturing business. It provides the tools you need to manage your master and transaction data, plan your production, and manage your inventory.
