Mastering Inventory Management with Empress UoM Feature

Introduction

The Unit of Measure (UoM) feature in Empress is an essential tool for managing your inventory effectively. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up and using UoM in your everyday business operations.

Introduction: The Importance of UoM in Business Operations

In business, it’s important to understand how you stock, price, and sell your items. That’s where the Empress Unit of Measure (UoM) feature comes in.

The UoM denotes the quantity in which you sell your products. For instance, you might stock an item individually but sell it in batches or boxes. The UoM feature allows you to set and track this information for all your inventory items, ensuring that your sales align with your inventory structure.

Setting Up UoM

  1. Go to the Item Master: Here, you’ll find the Unit of Measure section. This is where you can list all the potential UoMs for a particular item.

  2. Enter the UoM Conversion Factor: This is a number that represents the quantity of the item in a specific UoM. For instance, if you have 10 pens in one box, the UoM Conversion Factor would be 10.

Using UoM in Sales Orders

In the Sales Order, you’ll find two UoM fields:

  1. UoM
  2. Stock UoM

By default, the system pulls the item’s default UoM into both fields. You can adjust the UoM field to reflect the Sales UoM (e.g., Box).

This step is crucial because it helps your customers understand the quantity of items they’re purchasing. In the print format, the item quantity appears in the Sales UoM.

The system then calculates the quantity in the Stock UoM based on the Quantity and Conversion Factor. If you sell one box, then the Quantity as per stock UoM will be set as 10.

Understanding the Stock Ledger Posting

Regardless of the Sales UoM selected in the Sales Order, the stock ledger posting will always be done in the Default UoM of an item. Hence, it’s vital to enter the conversion factor accurately while selling an item in a different UoM.

Conclusion: Enhancing Business Processes with UoM

Understanding and using the Unit of Measure (UoM) feature in Empress can significantly enhance your business operations. It allows you to accurately track, manage, and sell your inventory, resulting in a smoother sales process and improved customer experience.
