Mastering Service Items Setup in Empress

Introduction

Empress is a powerful tool not only designed for traders and manufacturers but also service-oriented businesses. Whether you’re a software development company, a certification service, or an individual consultant, Empress offers valuable features to streamline your business processes. This guide will show you how to tailor Empress to your service-oriented business, highlighting key features and how to use and navigate them.

Feature Name: Master Setup for Service Items

In service-based companies, you don’t maintain stock or need warehouses. Empress reflects this reality with its Master Setup feature for service items.

To create a Service (non-stock) Item:

  1. Go to the item master.
  2. Deselect the “Maintain Stock” field.

When creating a Sales Order for services, you’ll choose the Order Type as Maintenance. This type requires less detail than a stock item order, eliminating the need for Delivery Note and item warehouse details.

Even though service companies don’t deal with stock, you can still add stock items in Empress to manage your fixed assets, such as computers, furniture, and other office equipment.

Feature Name: Hiding Non-required Modules

Empress understands that not all modules are relevant to all businesses. As a service company, you might not need certain modules like Manufacturing and Stock. You can easily hide these modules.

To hide non-required modules:

  1. Navigate to Setup.
  2. Choose Permissions.
  3. Select Show/Hide Modules.

Any modules you deselect here will be hidden from all users.

Feature Name: User Roles and Permissions

Empress is a permission-controlled system, meaning user access is based on the permissions assigned to them. For example, if a user isn’t assigned a Role related to the Stock and Manufacturing module, these modules will be hidden from that user.

To manage user permissions, refer to our in-depth guide on User and Permissions settings in Empress.

Summary

Empress is a versatile tool that can optimize your service-based business operations. By tailoring the system to your specific needs, hiding irrelevant modules, and managing user permissions, you can make the most out of Empress.
