What are Public and Private Benches?
In the Empress platform, there are two types of benches - Public and Private. Your sites can live in either of these environments, and each type comes with its unique benefits.
Public Benches
When you create a new website on Empress, it’s automatically housed in a Public Bench. As the name suggests, these benches are open to all users. They are maintained by the Empress team, meaning you don’t need to worry about updates or maintenance - it’s all taken care of for you.
While you can’t add or update apps in Public Benches, you can access and manage all of your sites from the dashboard under the Sites grouping. This makes Public Benches a convenient and worry-free option for businesses who want to focus on their website content and leave the technicalities to us.
Private Benches
If you desire more control over your workspace, Private Benches are the way to go. These benches are exclusive to your sites, and you get full control over the environment. You can add or update apps as you please, and even choose the region where your bench is deployed.
Please note that Private Benches are available only for users on a plan that costs USD 25 or more.
Navigating and Using Benches
To view your benches, simply head over to the Empress Cloud dashboard. Here, you’ll see the Sites grouping. Click on it to see all your sites and the benches they are located in.
Editing, sorting, and tracking information in your benches is straightforward. In Private Benches, you can add and update apps as per your needs. However, in Public Benches, these functionalities are managed by the Empress team.
